La musique traditionnelle québécoise au violon est riche de plusieurs possibilités d'accords alternatifs. L'accord en grondeuse avec la corde basse montée au la fait gronder le violon en laissant résonner souvent les cordes ouvertes. L'image d'une grondeuse au firmament, tel un ciel qui gronde, est un message des gens partis trop tôt au ciel aux gens sur terre pour leur dire d’en profiter, de s'amuser et de danser!

Traditional Quebecois fiddling is rich with repertoire in alternative tunings (cross-tunings, or scordatura). Grondeuse (growling) tuning has the lowest string tuned up to an A, which is described as making the violin growl when the open strings resonate. The image of a stormy sky represents those who have died too soon, and is a reminder to those on earth to have fun and dance!
