Farewell to Whalley Range - Michael McGoldrick
Red Zone - Kate Bevan-Baker
The Road to Recovery - Liz Carroll
Arr. Kate Bevan-Baker

The lovely melody of this slip jig, Farewell to Whalley Range, provided a lot of inspiration in exploring arrangement possibilities for two violins. Its ethereal beauty is contrasted by the following two tunes in the set. Kate composed Red Zone a few years before the pandemic, but it did not have a title and she did not play it in public! This title seemed fitting during the lockdown period of imposed curfew and sky-high infection numbers in Montreal during 2021. The driving melody with syncopated accents evokes the unpredictable and stressful environment of the time. The Road to Recovery has a very large melodic range and similar syncopated drive to Red Zone. Liz Carroll notes that it is one of her favourite compositions, and we find it very satisfying to play, especially in unison!
